Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat. Although our membership is restricted to the combat wounded, we support all veterans and their families with a myriad of nationwide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.

Maplewood police officer
Julie Olson 1st Responder

On Monday June 14th at 7:00 PM the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) presented Officer Julie Olson of the Maplewood Police Department with it's National Law Enforcement Officer Citation (a plaque mounted citation) for wounds received as a result of criminal activity on September 7, 2009, in the incident where Officer Richard Crittenden of the North St Paul Police Department was killed. Officer Crittenden's family was presented with a MOPH citation on March 24, 2010. Officer Olson's presentation was delayed so she could attend a national ceremony for Officer Crittenden in Washington DC. The ceremony was conducted during the Maplewood City Council Meeting.

Patriots...A compliment to you from our National Junior Vice Commander Bill Hutton. Bill is a retired Los Angeles Homicide Detective and was at our Department Convention on May 14th & 15th. If you were not in attendance you missed a outstanding program of appreciation to the "Wounded First Responders’", here in Minnesota

Military Order of the Purple Heart

I would like to pass on this e-mail which reflects how important the First Responder Program is to law enforcement, fire and EMS services personnel. The First Responder Program honors our fallen and wounded men and women who fight domestic terrorism on a daily basis. I would like to thank Harry Smart for his program development and implementation and all past and present National Commanders who helped initiate and maintain the First Responder Program. Further, I would like to commend the Department of Minnesota for organizing a wonderful tribute to their wounded First Responders who were "wounded in action".

Respectfully,

Bill Hutton

Nat'l Jr. Vice Cdr.
