Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat. Although our membership is restricted to the combat wounded, we support all veterans and their families with a myriad of nationwide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.

2010 Convention News

Women’s Convention:

Minnesota was well represented at the National Convention in Florida. The women were given good information about the EIN number.  What? Yes, make sure your Unit has an EIN number. Need help? Check with a Department Officer. Back to the convention….other good information we received was to help women with benefits from the VA. All the information will be given to you at the Fall Conference. The Tea was a hit with the beautiful hats worn by the Minnesota gals. Gloria won 1st Prize with her Patriotic Hat plus a gentleman came up to her and offered her $100. for her hat she took it. Gave the money to the National fundraiser.

Lots of our time as a group was taking in the works of the convention to help our convention next year.

Men’s Convention

The Men’s Convention was also well attended.  Our PNC/Service Foundation Officer Wroolie, Commander Lind, Senior Vice Command Lilledahl, Junior Vice Commander/ Department Service Officer Brown, Finance Officer German, Adjutant Connor, NEC Kinser, and Aide-De-Camp Murphy all attended.

All members should check out the National website for the following press releases:

U.S. Navy Corpsman Jason Deguzman Receives Prestigious Lt. Michael P. Murphy Scholarship Award, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Honors Morrill Worcester and Wreaths Across America.  These moving presentations were presented at the Saturday evening Banquet.  Our new National Officers are also listed there.

Our Department won both the largest increase and largest percentage increase in new members for the second year in a row.  This is due largely to Department Service Officer Mark Brown and Minnesota National Service Officer Dave Srock both winning largest individual increases in signing up new members nationally for the second year in a row.  Their awards also come with a $100.00 check.  Mark Brown also won Region II Patriot of the Year.  Stop by the Hospital office to see the plaque he received.
